It's been quite a wait for Nintendo fans of the YouTube trailblazer AVGN, with Angry Video Game Nerd Adventures arriving on PC in 2014 and pegged as being due "very soon" last July. Set for Wii U and 3DS, it will at least apparently utilise the second screen options on both systems.
The Wii U version seems to finally be on the horizon, with the official game page on Nintendo of America's website listing it for 2nd April at a price of $9.99. These listings are occasionally inaccurate, but hopefully publisher ScrewAttack Games will clarify soon; we're also curious to see if the 3DS version is due to arrive at the same time.
As for the kind of game developer FreakZone Games has produced, it's a typically fiendish retro action-platformer with plenty of references to classic games and the YouTube series. It'll also, presumably, be one of relatively few 'mature' download-only titles on the eShop.
Are you still excited about this one on Wii U and 3DS? Let us know.

Anyway, I've only heard mediocre reviews for this. Is it really that bad?
I have been waiting for this for quite some time now. I will wait your review, but I think I will pick it up.
@Inkling Not really, it's extremely difficult (almost to the point of feeling cheap), but it's pretty good mechanically (final boss is disappointing though).
Awesome! Time to grab an e shop card.
I got it on Steam when it was on sale but I haven't even installed it yet. I've played it once on my brother's PC though. Having it on console makes it more likely for me to play it but I think I'll be waiting for a sale anyways.
Nice! Never got a chance to play this until now, but I'm definitely interested ever since seeing the Nerd himself play it.
Also, a new AVGN video was just uploaded.
If you're a fan of classic platformers, you really owe it to yourself to play this game, it's absolutely fantastic. Great level design, extremely challenging, and has surprisingly awesome music.
Really whether you like AVGN or not, you'll be very into this if you like Castlevania, Mega Man or Contra. Check out some gameplay vids
I saw his video for this, the difficulty is cranked and cheap deaths abound just like in the classic NES games he talks about. $9.99 seems a bit high to me though.
@Late Thanks for the heads-up, going straight to it.
Anyway, this is great news, as I've wanted to play this ever since I saw James' own video about it. But the version I'm interested in is the 3DS one, as I feel this kind of game is a much better fit for it - and I don't have a U yet, anyway.
@Jeff1pnt3 It is meant to be be extremely difficult to the point of feeling cheap. As an avid fan of the series, you get to understand all the jokes behind the video game. The games he plays on the NES, Atari 2600 etc are all the worst he can find and that is what this game is based on.
This would be a great title to do cross-buy on... ::fingers crossed::
This is a great game, can't wait to play the full thing!
'Damn, you spended a lot of money on amiibo recently. Let's slow down and don't buy anything for a while (excluding the 3DS amiibo adapter)'
And then they come with this. Is there anything known about the 3DS release? I love the PC version, and I would love it on my 3DS even more.
Come oooooooon Euro release.
I'll skip. I enjoy about half the content they put out and the other half I despise. Sometimes the humor is spot on, fresh and creative (I really liked the board game series); at other times he takes it too far with the "simple crude potty humor"....but that's just my opinion.
I'll pick it up, just not at launch since I don't have much money at the moment and I plan on saving for Splatoon.
Eh. Not really an AVGN fan.
I thought this got rejected by Nintendo. I'm dipping in and I'm a fan, so...
I'd play it. Good price, too.
@FragRed Except it's not, as Screwattack themselves has said "If you die it's your own fault"; C'mon, even Mega Man 1 knew when to have some leeway (I love Mega Man 1 btw).
Don't worry, I can catch all of the references (I used to watch a ton of AVGN videos), but you can only hear variations on the same joke so many times in this game before it gets old. Plus, they completely missed the opportunity to have the Nostalgia Critic as the final boss. :/
Finally! Very interested in this.
I want!!!!!
Can't wait for all the censorship!
Can't wait! I'll buy it once I clear up some other games on my wishlist!
Does it have an easy mode at least?
makes me wonder i it'll be mature like the PC version?
A great game, definitely recommended for NES fans and especially AVGN fans.
And @Bass_X0 there are several difficulty levels, though even the easiest is a bit hard, but in a good way.
Been waiting for this to come to the Wii U
@speedyboris He did an episode where he played loads of fan made games, then as the last game he played it was the AVGN Adventures game that is on Steam. Link is here! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WEz0IoffV9g
Yes!!! Finally! I've been wanting to play this for the LONGEST time! I would have played it on Steam but I never got a controller for my laptop haha.
Even if the game is just okay, I'll still buy it on my NEW3DSXL. AVGN ROCKS!
I don't know if it will ocme to Australia, but I haven't heard amazing things about it.
Well I got AVGN movie on BluRay so why not?
What about Europe?
Nice!
Sweet! I've been looking for something to play on my Wii U besides SSB and Mario Kart. On a side note, James' latest AVGN episode renewed my interest in the series. It brought back that AVGN magic that I feel has been missing from many of his recent videos.
Lookin' forward to it, especially for the 3DS!
It is a fun game. It is short and difficult, and the replay value of this game is supposed to be improving skills through practice, just like those original NES games.
Not sure if I'll pick this up, AVGN isn't always my thing. And I've seen stuff about the game, none of which really makes me curious.
@StephenYap3 I think you're confusing this with The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth.
I love the AVGN and pretty much anything James Rolfe produces, but I'm not one for torturing myself with impossible games, so I'm not sure if I'll pick this one up or not. Maybe on sale to support James.
@Kaze_Memaryu I've already heard of Binding of Isaac's status (and personally, I'm kind of glad it got rejected). However, after watching the AVGN review of this game and looking at how long ago Screw Attack games said it would coming very soon (back in 2013), I though Nintendo rejected it after those months due to the adult content it had (i.e. language, questionable images, and that certain level based on a certain Atari 2600 game).
Okay, Wains World and Revenge of the NEEEERRRRDDDDDSSS had an Videogame so I guess this is acceptable.
