Demos have been a staple of the gaming world for a very long time, but usually these are snippets from the full game to tempt you into buying the full package. Recently demos have been expanding to try and provide something worth playing for those who would buy the retail package regardless, but we think Bravely Second: End Layer may have totally taken the biscuit on these grounds.
Bravely Second: The Ballad of the Three Cavaliers acts as a ten hour prelude to the events of the full game, featuring its own unique content and the ability to transfer items to the main game upon its release, providing you buy it of course. Considering this is an entirely free adventure it seems like a complete no brainer for anyone who's even heard of the abbreviation 'RPG' to pick this up when it's released on the 11th February in Europe.
Apologies to those in the North American region as we currently do not have a date for the release of this demo, but you can be sure we'll be screeching it from the proverbial rooftops when we get more information.
Check out the video below where you can see a big, chunky slice of this tasty demo in action along with the same information you've just read; at least you won't forget it.

I'm really hoping we get this in the States. Sounds amazing.
Pretty funny that that a demo of a game is meatier than some of so-called AAA-games. Downloading this as soon as it's available.
I look forward to downloading this when it comes to the U.S. I love these companies that release super-meaty demos for their upcoming games. A ten-hour demo is almost unthinkable from any Western publishers.
They are really making ten hours of unique content and giving it away as a demo? That's generous in this climate of overpriced DLC.
Holy hell, that's a whole game right now. Between this and PT, demos are getting unexpectedly innovative and exciting
I never tried this game before, but I was always curious about it. Sadly JRPGs and I have had some very high ups and some very low downs. I guess this is my chance to try it out then!
Finally got around to playing Bravely Default and I'm loving it!
This is a marvelous way to promote the game. Hopefully there's a way to transfer job progress or asterisks from the demo.
Already completed it thanks to your free early code! Very good demo, like the one for Bravely Default.
@sinalefa Considering that they did give away the first 40 hours of Bravely Default, Silicon Studio tend to be really kind with this free content.
Free JRPG? VERY TEMPTING! But, I don't want to update my system and potentially lose homebrew just for this...
If I ever get around to getting a Red New XL for my collection I'll definitely get a hold of this. Will be waiting for a significant price drop of said Red New XL.
I wasn't even paying attention to this game. Now I am! Guess that was the point...
Again, I have to thank you guys so much for the code. The demo is awesome so far, great to be back to the series. Music is awesome by the way.
EU gets this first, and we get FE Fates first. Seems fair. Just hope they don't have to wait much longer for Fates.
Did the original Bravely Default come with a demo too? How would one go about acquiring that one?
I only got this Bravely Second demo because I was lucky and won a download code from this very website.
@EarthboundBenjy
Hmm... If it's not in the eshop, it's been pulled - it was definitely in the eshop when I downloaded it, but that was before it released.
Is this really any longer than the first demo? I thought the first game's demo was toted as a 10 hour demo of exclusive content (and I'm certain unlocked items for the full game). I loved that demo, hit the level caps. Makes it hard to refuse the fall game - you download it for the full standalone experience, you get the full game for the content you unlocked and because you want more of the experience!
This seems very generous. I've not got round to playing Bravely Default yet, but I'll give this demo a try.
@ShadJV
I typed "Bravely" into the eShop search bar, and the only non-video result I get is the full digital version of Bravely Default. If the first game's demo is truly gone forever, then that's kind of sad.
"Apologies to those in the North American region as we currently do not have a date for the release of this demo, but you can be sure we'll be screeching it from the proverbial rooftops when we get more information." The people of Nintendo life are G's 😎 thanks guys, always can count on you
@EarthboundBenjy did you check the top of the trailers when clicking on the bravely default application within the eshop? It says "download demo" when you click on the full game right above "Tap here to purchase" and the videos on the bottom screen
@Zoda_Fett
Is that demo the same as every other eShop demo, with limited uses, etc.? Or is it really the bonafide special demo story for the first game? I was kind of expecting it to take the form of a separate entry in the shop listing, similar to the OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire special demo app.
I might get this game.
I don't even need to read who wrote the article to be able to tell it was Alex that wrote this. His verbiage and mannerisms are always present, whether its the videos or articles. I mean that as positively as humanly (and inhumanly) possible
That aside, I can't imagine the Bravely Second demo would be much further away that the European release. If so, then thats pushing it really close to the full games release, which no es bueno
That's okay, Alex. We'll be enjoying Fire Emblem Fates while you guys play Bravely Second.
That is surprisingly generous. Hopefully a trendsetter for future demos.
That being said, I hated the original game with all the passion of our sun so you could not pay me to touch this game or the series it has become.
Cool about the free game/demo! But already I can see one of the poisons that ailed the first game is still in play here against my hopes it would have changed: No town exploration. Those gorgeous city environments go to waste when the only thing you can do in them is open a door here and there to pull up a shop menu. So sad. My other gripe with the first game was the bland and repetitive dungeon design. Anyway, this is cool news. Since I'm interested in the game but think it failed in its potential I sold my collector's edition of the first and wont be getting this one. But a free mini version of the game is a perfect alternative!
The first demo put me off buying that game, but I'll still be giving this a try. I'vd had a Game voucher burning a hole in my pocket since Xmas 🎅🏼
I still need to download my demo!
What kind of bonuses do you get if you transfer the data from the demo to the main game? And does the demo's story relate to the main game's story like a prologue or anything?
Did they upgrade the music or something? The battle music has WAY more to it compared to the japanese demo, there is no chorus and whatnot there.
Not that I'm complaining, this sounds a hell of a lot better.
Welcome king of demos
No spoilers, but there is a boss who is going to launch a thousand cosplay outfits.
He's a rum old Cove to beat though.
Excuse me - I have some more dungeon grinding to do before facing him again.
@EarthboundBenjy You click on "Bravely Default" and then on the bottom screen it says "Download Demo". It just isn't listed separately - 99% of demos aren't listed separately.
@alasdair91 I downloaded that just to see, and I got an app that has 30 uses remaining. I already own the full game of the original Bravely Default - so this app isn't what I wanted. I wanted the original game's prelude story.
I guess it truly is lost forever.
@EarthboundBenjy Oh the first game had a preclude demo too? I thought you meant the demo for the full first game. Sorry, man!
Holy Hell... Please let us get this in North America soon! That's a seriously generous Demo...wow... (I'm already an Ex-Pat, actually more like a Never-Pat... maybe I should consider speeding up my relocation to British Soil)
@Patriplexity
I...ended up having to update anyway due to Fates, and I forgot to set up anything that would prevent me from accessing my homebrew, so I thought I was screwed for a while.
Thanks so much for posting, I'll check out Browserhax when I have the time. If I'm lucky, this demo/prologue game will be released over here before the next system update hits.
