Though it maybe doesn't get updated nearly as often as many would like, the DS library on the Virtual Console continues to grow at a fairly steady pace. Naturally, there are plenty of holes in the lineup thus far, but the process for making games available on the service is supposedly much more difficult than it seems on the surface. If recent comments by Natsume are any indication, we may see some games from the company on the DS Virtual Console in the near future.
Natsume recently held a Q&A session for the winter season and the first question on the agenda was related to the possibility of Natsume DS games on the Virtual Console. While the response was hesitant to make any confirmation of impending releases, it seems that the company is in the process of figuring it out. Here was the response to the question:
We are always interested in making Natsume's library of unique and engaging titles avaible for Virtual Console. Currently, we are looking into what we can do… No news yet, but keep watching our social media for any announcements!
What do you think? Will Natsume bring DS games to the Virtual Console? What games would you like to see on the service? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

I just want to know when Capcom is going to release DS games on the VC. I really want to play Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney! :/
Please bring pokemon mystery dungeon explorers of sky to the virtual console, I like that game so much and it has a great story line
Phoenix Wright and Pokemon have nothing to do with discussing what Natsume games we want to see on the Virtual Console. Natsume have almost released all of their non-licensed GBA games on Virtual Console with the only desirable game left being CIMA: The Enemy, which looks like a Final Fantasy Tactics game. Here's a list of games on DS they can release. Ignore the licensed games obviously. I'd like to play the Lufia game.

there's no indication of ds virtual console on the wii u only and i read in a previous item on nlife that there was a new release on the 3ds that was a ds game and it functioned just like a dsiware game. this might be a wave of ds games on the 3ds eshop. not likely, wish it were tho'.
@Peace-Boy me too, as well as a whole bunch of other ds games.
I hope more 3rd parties will release their games in Wii U's VC. I'd get Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories, 358/2 Days and Re: Coded again just to play them on big screen with a proper controller.
Golden Sun: Dark Dawn would also make sense; the first two have already been released in VC.
@Bass_X0 I would really like to play the Lufia game too, looks cool.
That's easy the rune factory series and Lufia come to mind as i think it clear the harvest moon games will hit the vc guaranteed.
AS for other 3rd party games i hope we get the kingdom hearts games and TWEWY to be the next games to come to the vc from square enix
Honestly I think want DS games on the 3ds my Nintendo has proved it's possible so why not Nintendo?! Release the Pokémon games on there and they will sell loads, Apollo justice would be nice too as it's the only main series ace attorney game most people can't play! harvest moon suits portability far more too!
@DoctorOverbuild They've only proved that it is kind of possible. Warioware works because it's small enough to fit in the allotted memory for DSiWare. Any games much larger than that would be too large.
I'd be happier if Nintendo was just as enthusiastic about releasing VC games as third parties are. Capcom, Natsume, and Bandai-Namco release VC games more regularly than Nintendo, or SEGA for that matter. Has SEGA even contributed anything besides the Game Gear games? (3D series doesn't count)
@RudysaurusRex Maybe so, but if they can fit 3ds games on the eshop they sure can fit DS games!
Math Play is my most anticipated VC release from Natsume. It's a true classic.
Does Natsume really have the rights to be able to do this? I would have thought Marvelous would have been the ones to agree...
"Grows at a fairly steady pace?" No way. The US has had one DS game on the eshop since summer 2015, and that's Big Brain Academy.
@ikki5 Like it or not, it's Natsume (Inc.) that has the distribution rights to titles before Victor was bought by Marvelous.
That said, I'd rather Natsume focus its efforts on a certain CERO C-rated title that starts with "Medabots" and ends with "Girls."
@DoctorOverbuild That would be great. I tried a DS game on the Wii U and I really didn't care for how it was presented.
SQUISHY TANK!
Oh the glorious glitchyness!
I'd rather want Harvest Moon 64.
@MussakkuLaden Natsume themselves say that's probably never going to happen, saddly, they say it's basically impossible to emulate it properly and that "the code so messy, it's a miracle it even runs on the n64".
@Meowpheel Oh, that's a shame. Thank you for the information, though! I hadn't heard about that before. May these deficits in the code perhaps even be the reason why the game eventually never came to Europe?
However, in the light of that information it seems weird to me that HM64 is running without noteworthy problems on PC emulators for ages, something that still can't be said of many N64 games.
@Peace-Boy I want to know when the snes street fighters are coming for the 3ds.
And yet they can't bring over their own licensed N64 game to Wii U. Sad.
@LegendOfPokemon The statement is more true for Europe and Japan than it is for NA.
If you folks want classic Harvest Moon, you'd better hope Natsume pulls this off. The garbage they make with the Harvest Moon brand now is NOTHING compared to the Marvelous-made, Natsume localized Harvest Moon games.
@Mr_Zurkon Yeah the quality is more blurry due to the huge resolution change! I really don't like that! I don't like having the touch screen on the gamepad and the top screen on the tv screen, i don't like any of the ways it's presented! which is why i always just go buy the cartridge! nintendo could do ds games on the eshop if they wanted to and let us play them the way they are meant to be played!
Sounds great. Sign me up.
@MussakkuLaden maybe! Apparently HM64 doesn't work all that well in emulators either, with graphical errors and weird things happening. At least that what they said on their forums once.
It seems Nintendo is picky about the state of their virtual console games, they probably don't want a game running "just OK".
So Harvest Moon or Rune Factory? Or maybe they'll skip the ones of those people want for some reason and give us Squishy Tank or Cheer We Go. But I won't lie a couple of their weird JRPG things that are aimed at girls(?) like Witch's Wish or Princess Debut had decent imaging and remind me of some PSN imports like Evergreen Avenue or Sarara’s Little Shop
If they come out only on Wii U, I'm not interested. I never bought that system and never will. And on the other hand, why have a DS virtual console on 3DS when the 3DS actually plays DS games?! How about Natsume instead focus on bringing its SNES Harvest Moon game to the 3DS virtual console! And other games for the SNES as well.
Weren't there a whole bunch of HM games on DS, in addition to the Rune Factory games?
@CB85 there was....
Puzzle de HM
HM DS
HM DS Cute (same as DS but "for girls")
HM Island of Happiness
Puzzle de HM 2
HM Sunshine Islands
HM Grand Bazar
HM The Tale of Two Towns
Rune Factory
Rune Factory 2
Rune Factory 3
I think thats all.
So yeah that's quite a good amount of content.
I'm still waiting for them to bring Friends of Mineral Town to the UK eShop.
Why don't we have DS games on the 3DS eshop in the first place?
If Nintendo wanted to make some more money, i'd say that would be an easy investment, especially since some DS games are very high in price now.
@Spike6958
Yes we are still waiting! And More Friends of Mineral Town pls.
Also bring SNES games to the new 3DS virtual console.
@Charinzardon mega man too also do it in may make another mega man may.
Hopefully, if they bring Harvest Moon DS, it would be the slightly less buggier 1.1 Ver.
I'd be laughing my arse off if that wasn't the case.
They should bring back Freedom Wings!
Said me, and only me, ever.
Now if we can get the Castlevania DS games on there
@andrew20 It is a good idea, as there is 5 megaman games announced for the VC, but my wallet doesn't like this idea though.
@Meowpheel They also had a DS River King game. Not sure if its attached to the HM series ala spinoff.
i normally don't rebuy Harvest Moon games, but the original one for DS was special, possibly my favorite ever. I like that it looked like the GBA version of mineral town.
SNES POCKY & ROCKY I/II PLEASE!!?? WHAT THE HELL!!
Can't believe only 1 person said it, but POCKY & ROCKY 1 & 2 FFS!!!! PLEASE!!!!
Trying to threaten me by unleashing those garbage harvest moon games natsume? I won't be intimidated that easily.
I don't know. Most of the Harvest Moon DS games were buggy or just boring. I'd give Grand Bazaar a second go around though.
@EVIL-C I know right? It baffles me how these 2 classic Snes titles continue to be overlooked!! We got the gba POCKY so what's the problem?? I think Natsume is full of beans when they stated that Nintendo is shying away from snes vc titles because we had several since that statement was made!! Cmon Natsume get going!!
