With the start of another week we have the Nintendo Download Update details for Europe, and it's a relatively modest line-up this time around. Two new budget download-only titles arrive on the Wii U, while a fan-favourite also gets a timely discount. On the 3DS there's DLC, discounts and HOME Themes, but most interesting of all is a movie download option. Let's get to the details.
Wii U eShop
TAP TAP ARCADE 2 (RCMADIAX, €2.99 / £2.69) - This second mini collection includes SKEASY and also a new arrival called VOLCANO. We gave the former a modest recommendation in our review, and we'll see whether its companion in this bundle is red hot or rather dormant in fun.
Sudoku and Permudoku (Diplodocus Games, €0.99 / £0.89) – Well, it's all in the name, with the classic number puzzles joined by a colour-based variation. There are 1000 puzzles, 500 of each with five difficulty settings, and we thought this was a competent effort in our Sudoku and Permudoku review.
Cube Life: Island Survival (Cypronia, €9.99 / £7.99) - This game has been out for some time, so its inclusion in Nintendo's list likely points to a major update being on the way (we'll leave this one out of the poll for that very reason).

She is to perform at the legendary Crown Petone Opera House and invites him to attend as her special guest. Meanwhile, a spate of disappearances hits London. Two young school girls are the latest victims and the Professor suspects it's related to the mysterious occurrences at the theatre. The Professor and his loyal assistant Luke travel to the Opera House to solve their toughest puzzle yet, the mystery of Eternal Life!
3DS DLC
Fire Emblem Fates: Ballistician Blitz (Nintendo, €1.99 / £1.79 or part of Map Pack 1) - You might remember the general layout of Ballistician Blitz from "The Wooden Cavalry" stage in Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon. Fire Emblem Fates: A Gift from Anna (Nintendo, free)

Rubbish week! It's almost like a permanent fixture. It'd be quicker to get a stamp made up saying, "Nothing for me this week".
Edit: On second reflection, I think I'll buy Sudoku and Permudoku. I love Sudoko and it's only €1.
And my patience with Nintendo erodes that little bit more... Nothing again this week is quickly becoming a catch phrase.
I might finally get Splatoon, my only trouble is the bad internet connection I have at home, it's also a big trouble playing Smash Bros because my upload speed is really bad.
I highly recommend Nova-111, it's a great and challenging action puzzler. Layton and the eternal diva should also be a game
Too bad it's only 3DS, because it could get boring watching it on that screen (low res). You can even find it on youtube in japanese...
As bad as it gets for Wii U. The Splatoon discount is also pointless, it's been available physically and digitally since launch day for cheaper than that.
The store has so much rubbish that a possibility good game will get lost.
Tempted by Karous but reviews and the fact that it's like a £1 saving is tempting me to hold fire.
And the usual belly aching about how every week has to be "amazing" with tonnes of great releases. You'd think people want lots of reasons to spend all their money.
Nothing for me this week. I've seen Eternal Diva before, and it's worth watching if you enjoy the story in Professor Layton games.
The Professor Layton movie would have been more tempting had it been released on Wii U in HD, seeing as there is no Blu-ray release outside of Europe (not even Japan appear to have gotten a Blu-ray release!).
The only thing worth getting is the layton movie but i already have it on DOOVDE.
Aren't Viz Media the North American distributers of the Layton film? Would that mean this is the American version with American Luke?
The Layton movie, hope this will be in 3D. The movie is fantastic!
Another list of uninteresting games.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I'll get a new "Nothing for me this wee... ooh, actually, I'd love me some..." stamp knocked up for you, shall I? 😃
Wait, they're selling the Layton MOVIE? On 3DS?!
Guys, there's more Hello Kitty themes. Why isn't anyone else thrilled about this?
whoa! I'm getting the professor Layton movie, that's all though, overall a pretty poor week. I wish Nintendo would spice it up with some first party temporary discounts!
Hey, can anyone confirm whether Zero Time Dilemma is getting an AUS release? I went to find it, excitedly, this weekend, and it doesn't seem to be there at all....
NOTHING.
Also, I got Splatoon for 29.99 on release. Not a discount.
The thumbnail made me think a Layton sale would be involved. All right, nothing to see here, moving on.
Gotta be ONE of the very worst weeks ive ever seen and thats saying something.
I've already got Professor Leyton on DVD. So, nothing for me this week.
Wow, never expected that. I own the Layton blu-ray special addition, but would double dip if the 3DS version is in 3D. But I'm guessing it isn't...
Might go for one of the Hatsune Miku themes that appeared for no reason.
The Layton Movie definitely sounds interesting, I hope it's even in 3D, but at such a price it's a deal anyway
The Layton movie's a great family movie.
Not quite sure why they won't offer it on the Wii U though. Should be cross-buy for both. The Pikmin shorts should have been, too.
The Layton movie? Might double-dip...
The Layton movie interests me, but I already own the DVD so I'll probs just save some moolah and rewatch it. Speaking of Layton, I gotta get back into the series. Loved the first two games but it sorta fizzled after for me.
Here is your winner: Not the Nintendo consumer base!
Remember when the 3DS launched we were supposed to be able to buy 3D films on the eShop?
I'd really like to buy Mercenaries Saga 2, but since it isn't available in Germany...
Glad that this is the week I chose to buy a couple of Everdrives for my old SNES and Mega Drive. I'm sure I find something to play on those.
Nothing I want to download (already have the Professor Layton movie on DVD) so I'll just carry on with Tokyo Mirage Sessions by the looks of it.
Absolutely nothing
I hope the movie comes to 3DSs in NA, but I would also like new games to be downloadable as well.
MOVIES!!!! FINALLY!!! Now if only you could purchase the series from the Nintendo Anime Channel - I'd be over the moon!!! C'mon Nintendo & Level 5. I want to own INAZUMA!!!!
Well it's a other week of 'not much happening' but that won't bother me. I've just started xenoblade x and I'm still in the middle of starfox zero (finally starting to click after 10-20hrs of play, I'm giving it a thumbs up for originality and different gameplay angles but it's VERY inaccessible and it SHOULD have a 'simple' controls mode imo) so I really can't complain. My backlog still includes the last half of project zero, splinter cell:blacklist, child of light, Thomas was alone and loads more I forget.........
Too many games to play and loads of football is leaving me ready for the pre NX drought
Profesor Layton Movie? As a full lenght 90-120 minutes movie? On 3DS? Interesting. But I'm afraid I won't have enough space on my SD card for it, sigh...
Hmmm, might pick up the Layton Movie again (I have it on Blu Ray), but other than that it's deathly quiet…
Can anyone confirm if the Layton Movie is in 3D? For that price… probably not…
Worst thing about that price, is no MyNintento points event for buying it…
:/
Fates DLC as always but this drought in general is something else. I put ~£50 on my eshop for E3 and afterwards as a backup (already had around £35) and still have ~£80 left as all I've bought since E3 digitally on Nintendo systems is a few VC upgrades (Wii -> Wii U).
Poor, poor, poor. Surely these are the weeks the Virtual Console was meant for?
by the picture, i thought the old ds professor layton games were coming to the eshop, or remade like ace attorney trilogy. drats.
EU eShop was on a roll with VC games a few months ago... What happened?
Eternal diva is awesome, but I already have the dvd.
Terrible week, but nobody should be surprised by that.
Splatoon should be a permanent price drop nowadays with the splatfest ending and all that...
I have that film on DVD, but will download it on 3DS, cos why not?
If you think the Layton movie is a weird choice, Japan got a download of the movie Up on their 3DS eShop some years ago which I don't think lead to other Disney films getting added to the service, just came out of nowhere like this one.
Still, with ViZ at the helm who knows what other things might get released because of this? They do hold the license for releasing the Pokemon anime on DVD in the US and did recently rerelease the first 3 movies. Or heck, maybe the Nintendo Anime Channel would finally get a lot more interesting...
On the subject of the Splatoon discount, isnt that also still a MyNintendo discount too? If you applied this discount and used coins to get a further discount, would that make it a little better?
At that price I'll definitely pick up the Professor Layton movie - awesome film & soundtrack plus it'll help make the commute to work a bit more I interesting. Hopefully it won't eat up too much of the sd card though.
Layton Movie not being for Wii U was a huge missed opportunity.
The 3DS's resolution is crap. I'd rather get it off of google play.
@Angelic_Lapras_King Ahem I believe the movie you are actually referring to is 'Grandpa Carl’s Flying House'.
(Look it up)
@Seacliff Yes, because I'm sure everyone would know what I meant if I used the Japanese title. XD
These weeks save me some eShop credit that I can later put towards Tokyo Mirage Sessions and a bunch of older games I didn't get at launch.
1000 Sudoku's for 99 cents sounds fair.
Prof. Layton only 3DS but not on Wii U sounds not fair.
@Grumblevolcano as a backup? What? Why wouldn't you just spend money when you wanted to buy a game, instead of just hoping that something will come out of the blue.
Kung Fu Panda,if/when i have enough memory.
@Grumblevolcano splashy duck??
Seriously though, tried castlestorm for a random option?
@tjhiphop Well certain things are for certain going to appear at some time like FE Fates Map Pack 2. I also thought at the time that stuff like MK8 DLC was all but confirmed with the tease tweets. If worst case scenario happens and I still have lots of eshop credit in holiday season I'll buy Kirby Planet Robobot.
@Barbiegurl777 Nintendo doesn't choose if Hello Kitty 3DS themes are released, you know. If you want Hello Kitty 3DS themes, talk to Sanrio.
Hmm the professor Layton movie while brilliant is such a random choice to be released on the eshop, surely it must be leading up to a new Layton game reveal in the West, considering a real Layton 7 was revealed. It's the first movie in recent memory on the Eshop
Nothing for me this week but i will check out the Pro Layton vid tho.
They release all these Hello Kitty themes in Europe and no one wants them. Meanwhile, here in the good 'ol USA, we have none of those and yet so many people DO want them. Nintendo has their heads up their rears. Just sayin'.
@Tsurii I watched avatar 3D on my 3ds
WHERE ARE THE MEGAMAN X GAMES FOR 3DS ESHOP?
@odavies94 The swearing was unnecessary...
comment removed
@odavies94 Enjoy your ban kid...
Holy cow, this is just European eShop, but it doesn't bode well for NA eShop... usually I can find at least one discounted game I'm interested in, but it looks really weak this week.
Will this animated movie be available in several languages included the original one? Because I already saw it in french on TV but never watched the japanese version.
how about this instead:
