It's that time of the week, once again, when we take a look at the new downloadable goodies to be found on the Wii U and 3DS eShop in North America. This time around there's a major retail release on Wii U, while both eShop stores have a variety of interesting new arrivals. The Wii U and New 3DS Virtual Consoles also get a release each, while we also have the usual batch of discounts. Let's get to the details.
Missed the European Nintendo Download Update details earlier in the week? Well, you're in for a treat, check them out here.
Wii U Retail Download
Paper Mario: Color Splash (Nintendo, $59.99) - The series finally makes its bow on the Wii U, as Nintendo puts its expertise of HD craft-like visuals to work once again. This one introduces paint as a core mechanic, has plenty of quirky humour and otherwise offers a blend of timed button presses and items in battles. We were impressed with it in our Paper Mario: Color Splash review. Available from 7th October.
Wii U eShop
ACT IT OUT! A Game of Charades (Snap Finger Click, $9.99) - As the name suggests this is a party game in which you try to help others guess phrases or names. Originally on PS4, the GamePad touchscreen allows drawing to come into the mix in addition to acting and singing. Available from 10th October.
Ninja Pizza Girl (Disparity Games, $9.99) - A 2D runner with sources of inspiration such as Sonic The Hedgehog and Mirror's Edge. Rather than a health gauge, however, the game judges your esteem as you dash through delivering pizza as stylishly as possible; mistakes and enemies bring on taunts from bullies, with this game seeking to raise awareness of these issues.
PSIBO (NAMI TENTOU MUSHI, $4.99) - Another title from this developer that opts for a retro aesthetic, it looks like a high-octane combat-led mix of Breakout gameplay. This includes an endless mode after a campaign of fighting through 'hexagonal defence systems'.
SKORB (Stereo Chromatic, $8.99) - A Wii U exclusive, this is pitched as a relaxing flying game or an opportunity to chase the best global times on various courses.
Hurry Up! Bird Hunter (EnjoyUp Games, $7.99) - As the name suggests, this is a shooting gallery title in which you hunt birds of various types with the Wii Remote. We were very unimpressed with it in our Hurry Up! Bird Hunter review.
Wii U Virtual Console
Mario vs. Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis (Nintendo, $9.99) - Originally a DS retail release, this tasks you with clearing a path and manipulating the environment to allow wind-up toys to march forward, a formula Nintendo's continued to work on in subsequent releases. This is a pretty good entry in the series, and we rather enjoyed it in our review of this Wii U Virtual Console release.
Wii U eShop Temporary Discounts
Infinity Runner (Wales Interactive, $3.99 until 3rd November, normally $6.99)
Chompy Chomp Chomp Party (Utopian World of Sandwiches, $5.99 until 3rd November, normally $11.99)
Word Search by POWGI (Lightwood Games, on discount until 13th October)
Joe's Diner (Joindots, $5.99 until 21st October, normally $7.99)
B3 Game Expo for Bees (Famous Gamous, $3.99 until 19th October, normally $4.99)
Christmas Adventure of Rocket Penguin (Petite Games, $1.59 until 20th October, normally $1.99)
Hot Rod Racer (ZeNfA Productions, $1.49 until 1st November, normally $2.99)
The Letter (TreeFall Studios, $0.49 until 1st November, normally $1.99)
3DS Retail Download
Disney 2-Pack - Frozen / Big Hero 6 Combo (GameMill Entertainment, $29.99) - Available from 11th October.
3DS eShop
Psycho Pigs (Bergsala Lightweight, $7.99) - A quirky arena brawler that cites a 1987 Jaleco game as its inspiration, you battle it out as pigs while trying to use the environment as an asset. We had some fun with this in our Psycho Pigs review.
Epic Word Search Holiday Special (Lightwood Games, $7.99) - A continuation from previous entries in the series, but this time around it features categories themed around Holidays such as Halloween, Christmas and Valentine's Day.
New Nintendo 3DS eShop
Pixel Hunter (Lemondo Games, $2.99) - This is a sidescrolling platformer that incorporates 3D Voxel-based visuals; your task is to run through five worlds (with some runner sections and boss fights included) and win back your character's weapons which have, apparently, been stolen by animals.
New Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console
Mega Man X2 (Capcom, $7.19) — While spin-offs aren't always a success, the early X games in the Mega Man series certainly captured the imagination. With a move-set and approach somewhat different to the "classic" series, this sequel is a rather good follow-up to its X predecessor; we think it holds up rather nicely on New 3DS, too.
3DS eShop Temporary Discounts
Aqua Moto Racing 3D (Zordix AB, $5.99 until 13th October, normally $7.99)
Word Search by POWGI (Lightwood Games, on discount until 13th October)
Castle Conqueror Defender (CIRCLE Entertainment, on discount until 27th October)
Glory of Generals: The Pacific (CIRCLE Entertainment, on discount until 27th October)
Funfair Party Games (Joindots, $5.99 until 21st October, normally $7.99)
Me & My Furry Patients 3D (Treva Entertainment, on sale until 20th October)
My Life on a Farm 3D (Treva Entertainment, on sale until 20th October)
That's everything for the North American Nintendo Download Update this week - let us know what you're planning to download in the poll and comments below.

I will order Paper Mario Color Splash physically on Sunday.
No digital download.
Just paper Mario this week
@Anti-Matter Basically this for me if I ever get that game.
Paper Mario Color Splash physically.
Finally Megaman x2 for download. I was hoping they would release x2 and x3 at the same time though.
Just the physical copy of Color Splash for me. Still waiting on Bomberman 94' NoA and maybe the Somic Advanced series.
I will be riding out a hurricane. I better find a Video Game for my 3DS and Vita to play.
@River3636
Wow, still some Hurricanes on USA ?
Please be careful...
WOW, Color Splash is $60 game in America? It's a budget release in Europe. Come to think of it, pretty much all first party (excluding second party) Wii U titles were budget releases in Europe for the last couple of years.
As a Pilotwings fan, SKORB looks fantastic. I love when games go for that "relaxing flight game" vibe. And it seems to have both free flight and time attack, so that's all I need.
@majinx07
Yeah I hate when they release DS and Wii games on VC by themselves. They could at least give us two choices, one being for a system that is no longer available! Wii games a directly playable in physical form on Wii U and DS games are directly playable on 3DS. I still have the physical copy of Mario Donkey Kong 2 on DS and it is playable on my current gen system! SMH
Color Splash physical. That is all.
I will get Paper Mario color Splash physical, but not yet I am going to be picking up Gears of War 4 first and waiting to see if color splash go's on sale on black friday.
I might get Color Splash eventually, but for now, nothing for me this week.
Well, guess I will go back to playing the DLC for Pikmin 3 for now. I might pick up Color Splash, but I will wait til I can cash in a big discount on it. What else would i use my platinum points for?
Let's get dementium 2 on the 3ds please. Isn't it still happening with 3d game half of the renegade kid split?
@Anti-Matter I won't get a direct hit, just Tropical force winds. I'm use to it. I living in South Florida; but if it wobbles a little south then we get more. I have been taught to prepare for a hurricane all my life. I was a Kid when Andrew hit and it destroyed my town. I do know the power will most likely go out. I'm just not sure how long that will happen. So I need to charge everything. I will be playing DQ7 or Fantasy Life. Does any body know a good space shooter?
Color Splash as physical. Any game that is higher than 1 GB must be physical for me.
The Letter (TreeFall Studios, $0.49 until 1st November, normally $1.99)
I've seen this game discounted so many times. TreeFall might as well permanently change its price to the discount price -_-
Color Splash still is Sticker Star 2 guys...becarefull with this game,keep your expectations in check, It's also kinda like the 3DS Sonic Booms as a whole. Neither is bad, the second is even rather good apparently. But because of Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric - which is FAR better known - no one will ever give either a chance and immediately assumes both are utter crap.
Someone explain to me why they are not releasing any Gameboy or NES VC. It's like they are trying to force people to upgrade to their latest revisioned system (new 3ds). My old one works just fine as the day I bought it as well as a huge memory card so it's kinda pointless to upgrade this late with the nx being just around the corner. Such a wasted opportunity Nintendo is missing out on (I'm still waiting on double dragon 3 and Castlevania Legends).
Color Splash and maybe Mega Man X2 for me.
Mario vs Donkey Kong GBA is still missing from the eShop.
@manu0 I've known PMCS was $60 for months and I didn't really think anything of it, until this morning when I saw it on this page. I guess knowing it's a 20 hour game that kind of looks like CT:TT ($60 US, $40 EU) $60 all of a sudden seemed a lot to me.
But on the bright side - no DLC, no season pass, no amiibo's to buy. So yes, it's $60, but it's only $60, and I don't have to pay $60 per year to play it online either. So I'm gladly paying my $48 (20% off w/ Amazon Prime) and calling it a win, such is the current state of gaming where the game price is usually only the beginning of the costs associated w/ the game.
@Anti-Matter Hurricane is big news.

@GameOtaku
Thank you, and I couldn't agree more! It makes no sense to me why, since games like Double Dragon 3 were released on the Wii U VC, they wouldn't be released on the 3DS as well! There's still a treasure trove of perfectly-releasable NES games that never hit American shores!
-Double Dragon 3
-Shadowgate, Deja Vu, Uninvited (Shadowgate released on 3DS Japanese VC)
-Adventures of Lolo 3
-Final Fantasy 1 (released in Japan)
-Startropics 1 and 2 (why these two were not released, considering that they are first-party, never made sense to me)
-Faxanadu (made by Hudson Soft, which is now owned by Konami)
-Contra (this has actually never made it to VC of any kind. Why Super C and Contra III are always released but the most popular iteration has only seen the light of day as a bonus game on Contra 4 has never made sense to me)
-Bionic Commando-Still one of my favorite NES games. I remember Capcom saying that it was Nintendo themselves who have blocked its release (I can only assume that Hitler's head exploding gave them pause).
-Strider-I've always loved this game!
I guess that I don't see the point in giving people partial libraries. Why bother releases games in a series if you don't intend on seeing them through? It also would have been nice if they had released some sort of statement instead of quietly walking away and shutting off the lights.
I'm definitely getting Color Splash as a download, as I don't want to wear out the disc drive any more, (too much Xenoblade X, Smash Bros., Mario Kart 8 and more on that thing. It's bound to quit soon. I'm talking over a 1000 hours! I remember when our Wii quit playing discs...that was a sad day).
Has anyone seen any info on a release date for Severed 3DS on the NA eshop?
The only game i want right now is SWH, but on this week releases, maybe Mario Vs DK 2... but i'm in not hurry...
If I get anything, it'll be Mega Man X2.
Finally X2, though I'm curious by the hate or incompetence of NoAmto just release X2 and not X3 too like NoE did. Whatever...
i just wanna play SteamWorld Heist on my TV gdi...
As usual...nothing for me this week. Wii U and 3DS are dormant. Give us NX ALREADY!
I'll be waiting for a used copy or black friday deal on Color Splash, thanks.
Would like to see some screens on that Pixel Hunter game, though. Bought a day one N3DS and so far only have LttP, Super Metroid and Binding of Isaac to show for it.
I'll be renting Color Splash this weekend, otherwise, nothing for me.
Paper Mario tomorrow, can't wait.
Used copy of sticker star 2
@manu0 I know. It is unfortunate.
I went with Kirby Robobot. It just looked interesting to me and I'm surprised I missed it initially.
I was hoping to get the Breath of Fire games on the 3DS like Europe got. Aren't we out of Megaman games yet?
@invictus4000 You think the NX will be different?
Nothing for me this week. Still, I just wish that PSIBO was a 3DS game, not Wii U.
Paper Mario shall be mine. In physical form.
Nothing for me this week. I'll be picking up Color Splash at a later date.
@Crono1973 Haha...one can only hope.
I get paid tomorrow, and then the Gunvolt Striker Pack will finally be mine on Saturday. Hoping the NLife review shows up pretty soon too.
Gurumin is next week! Those two games should get me to late November when the niece is going to need me to catch version-exclusive pokemon probably (even though I refuse to recognize anything after Celebi)
X2 my love!
Finally the collection is almost complete...
Wii U have reached its last days and Nintendo still can't give us decent discounts on the games that we actually wanna play.
Heavy internal debate going on in my head over Color Splash. It looks beautiful and fun and clever, but that card battle system hasn't reviewed well and I typically don't like those...
But still....ugh
@River3636 If you want old-school (3DS), Summer Carnival '92 RECCA, 3D Space Harrier, and 3D Galaxy Force II. Newer, Kokuga, Liberation Maiden, and Nano Assault EX.
I don't know that many Vita games, sorry.
More virtual console games please! And not DS related. I don't like dual screen games on the Wii U. Another football (American) option would be nice. SEGA should put Out Run and many other old school titles on the Wii U. SEGA! Where are you?
Slow week
....now back to Dragon Quest VII
Hmmm Sadame is on sale with a 50% discount... Maybe I'll try that one.
I look forward to this article every week. Most weeks are like this week, disappointing.
Yikes...
Got Color Splash retail and will likely get Ninja Pizza girl when I pick up my bi-weekly eshop allowance tomorrow.
@Neferupitou Well, we're not gonna get a know-it-all Goomba named "Goombolini" for a starting partner.
@rjejr
I prefer digital theoretically, but when the price is $12 more compared to 2-day shipped from Amazon at $48 (yes, we do pay for Prime but that has been a great value for us) and it's even possible to sell it if I want, I just keep going physical. The way my son jumps from game to game it would be much nicer digitally, but not gonna happen.
@aaronsullivan We signed up for $12 Prime last week to watch season 8 and 9 of Dr Who, so the $12 off PMCS was a bonus. And I had 5 things delivered today I ordered Tuesday, some were Prime only. We should probably pay the $99 but I don't shop much in winter or summer, spring and fall suit us.
Preordered Paper Mario: Color Splash with the Amazon Prime discount. I can't see this game dropping below $50 in the near future anyways. Might be a Nintendo Select if you wait 3 years.
I'll be getting Color Splash physically, but other than that, nothing this week.
While I understand the Wii U is close to the end, I've been ragging about the Thursday updates for 3 years!! Very very few had me excited. Such a wasted opportunity with the vc classics!! The PS4 and xone have such overwhelming choices almost every week. What a challenge it will be for Nintendo to try to break in with the nx! But I'll say this: if they pull this Wii U crap with NX they're done!! And if my classic vc library doesn't carry over to NX- then I'm done!! Spent a small fortune on Wii classics that didn't carry over in the first place!! Worst case sega will save a seat for you on that 3rd party bench!!!😡😡
Unfortunately I will probably be waiting until Christmas to get PM Color Splash. It looks like a fun game, despite its repetitive combat and other flaws.
The final Wii u game from Nintendo releases?
First week that I could safely say: Nothing for me. Could use a break, honestly.
Why do they keep ruining Paper Mario
@Clockwerk
Same could be said for metroid, castlevania and metal gear!
Skorb looks appealing! Dunno if I'll buy it full price though or wait till it's on sale (yes I know that's a terrible attitude, but a game's gotta either be cheap, or I gotta be in the right mood for the right game to buy & play it on the spot full price).
